Meet Kobe – Badgerland’s OG Boerboel

[Mae] Kobe
Ever have a dog change your life? That’s what Kobe did for us. Our priority was a puppy with a goofy, fun loving temperament and Mae Boerboels delivered as promised. Kobe inherited excellent genetics from the pairing of Mae Edwin (WS73688803) and Mae Carmela (WS74853002). It felt like we finally had the missing piece, a large Working Dog for our 7-acre property.
With this large powerful breed, training is a necessity. Paige absolutely fell in love with the process of obedience training because of the close bond it establishes. The connection with Kobe built on mutual trust and respect is something she treasures.
Because his temperament is relaxed and fun-loving, Kobe is able to join us for occasional outings to the local beer garden where he is a big hit with the ladies. He’s happiest at home though, running alongside the EZ-GO or keeping an eye on things while Jeff is on the tractor.
Personality
Kobe is lovable, laid back and easy going with his people and pack but quick to alert us when a stranger is on the property. The classic “gentle giant” he is tender with baby chicks and Boerboel puppies.
Development
Kobe is currently undergoing a series of testing including heart, hip, elbow, and eye, as well as comprehensive genetic screening. Check back for the latest updates and results!
Health
Kobe enjoys morning walks with his non-Boerboel siblings and playtime with the Badgerland Boerboel crew. While muscular, he still enjoys running fast. Kobe is on a raw food (PMR 80-10-10) diet and supplementation.

Life with non-Boerboel siblings
When Kobe joined our family, his big sister Laney (AmStaff Terrier) was thrilled. Cha-Ka, our 28-pound mix was a little skeptical though. Now, this trio spends most of the day together and Cha-Ka has learned that grooming Kobe’s jowls can be a rewarding experience.
As Kobe got older, his siblings were a big part of his training. Kobe would be in a Down Stay while Cha-Ka and Laney engaged in rambunctious play. This has paid off in that when there is a chaotic setting, we can confidently put Kobe in a Down Stay.
Boerboel Breed Ambassador
The Wisconsin Dog Fair is an annual event held by the Badger Kennel Club. In 2025 Kobe was a Boerboel breed ambassador which meant 6 hours of non-stop attention from dog lovers who were curious to meet the various Working Dog breeds. He spent quite a bit of time lying on his side to better accommodate belly rubs and really enjoyed the big hugs he got from children.
