How to Get a Puppy

#1 – Puppy Application
The best way to start the process is to complete an application. It helps us understand your lifestyle and what you’re looking for in a pup. Boerboels are wonderful dogs, but require a significant commitment. We want to help you find the pup that is ideal for you!
#2 – Contract & Deposit
Once you’ve decided a Badgerland Boerboel is a fit for you, we’ll send you a contract to review and sign and your deposit will secure your spot on the waitlist. Puppies are chosen in the order of which deposits are received. Deposits are transferrable but non-refundable.
#3 – Puppy Selection
The selection process actually begins at 4 or 5 weeks when the puppies start a custom temperament evaluation. Our goal is to help you choose the best puppy for your family, lifestyle and expectations.
#4 – Puppy Pick Up
We highly recommend picking up your new family member in person, if it’s practical. When it’s not, we offer shipping/transportation anywhere in the US though a number of trusted resources.
What Does a Boerboel Puppy Cost?
Our Boerboel puppies start at $3,800. Our pricing reflects extensive health testing (OFA hips/elbows/heart echo, PennHIP, full DNA panels), early socialization in our home, exceptional vet care, and the unique temperament and structure that make carefully breed Boerboels ideal family guardian-companions.
To reserve your place on the waitlist, a $1,000 deposit is required after you’ve reviewed and signed our contract. The deposit is fully transferable to future litters if the current litter doesn’t have the right puppy for you (gender, timing, or temperament). You’re never obligated to take the first available puppy – we work closely with you to match the right pup for your home and lifestyle.
NOTE: Should your circumstances change, the deposit is 50% refundable, no questions asked. Life happens, we get it.
The remaining balance is due at pickup (typically 8–10 weeks of age). Puppies leave with age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, microchip, vet health certificate, and a 2-year genetic health guarantee.

How Does Puppy Selection Work?
Puppy selection follows a first-come, first-served system, determined by the date the deposit is received and the contract is signed — whichever of the two happens later. Our waitlist is typically sorted by gender, so you’ll be asked to specify whether you’re hoping for a male or female puppy when joining the list.
Around 4 to 5 weeks of age, puppies begin to develop more noticeable personalities. That’s when the matching process begins. We’ll provide a temperament overview along with insights tailored to what you’re looking for in a companion. From there, we’ll help narrow the options to two or three puppies that best align with your preferences, including pros, cons, and rough estimate of adult size.
Ultimately, the choice is yours. We’ll never assign you a puppy you’re not excited about. If none of the available puppies feel like the right fit, your place on the waitlist will carry over to the next litter.

What’s Included with Your Puppy?
Every breeder runs things a little differently, but here’s what we include with the purchase of your puppy.
AKC Registration
Our dogs all come with limited AKC Registration (no breeding rights). We pay for the registration, but you get to select the name.
24-Month Genetic Health Guarantee
We conduct thorough health and genetic testing on our adults so that Badgerland Boerboel puppies are free of genetic defects.
30-Days Free Health Insurance
All puppies are covered with a 30-day policy from Trupanion.
Age-Appropriate Vaccinations & Deworming
Vaccinations are complete and are age-appropriate for the puppy. We have a careful vaccination protocol that we developed with our vet. (We have a PDF to help you understand the window of susceptibility and when your puppy is safe with vaccines.)
Puppy Pack
In addition to the relevant documentation, you’ll receive a starter pack of food and a few accessories to make the adjustment to your home a smooth one.
